Prison Break star and Global Brand Ambassador Dominic Purcell recently travelled to Ireland to present his mother with a very special gift.

During his hiatus between filming his ongoing hit series, Legends of Tomorrow (DC Comics), Dominic took the opportunity to have some much needed family/mum time. "Legends has a gruelling schedule that sees the cast and crew pulling extremely long days. We are all exhausted at the end of filming a season. Most of us are living away from our families as the show is filmed in Vancouver. Living in hotel rooms gets lonely. We can't wait to just get back to spending more than a few days at a time with our families" Dominic said.

"I had always planned to see my mum in this break and I was talking to the guys at Bausele about their awesome collaboration with the McGrath Foundation and raising money for breast cancer . They did not know it at the time, but my mum is a breast cancer survivor, so I told them I HAD to take one of those watches to my mum and give it to her as an early mother's day gift" he continued.

Once we realised Dominic's connection to the cause we were working with, we asked him to tell us a little (without getting too personal) about his mother's story. He told us that she had received a letter in the mail that a travelling Breast Screening Bus would be in her area in a few weeks, so she made a note of the date and went down to see them. When she got there she was told that for some reason she did not qualify for the program they were offering. After some discussion they decided to test her anyway. Lucky they did, because that’s when they found a lump. The end result was a mastectomy and a seriously tough time for the family.

"Seeing what mum went through was emotionally draining on all of us. What is needed most at that time, apart from world class treatment, is support. That is what I admire so much about the McGrath Foundation. They provide fully trained nurses to give the guidance and support needed on top of the medical treatment you are getting. They also listen to and empower you at a time when sufferers are at their most vulnerable. It really is a great cause" said Dominic.

For us at Bausele it was great to see the more emotional side of the tough guy we see on the screen in his overly masculine characters like Lincoln Burrows (Prison Break), Mick Rory (Legends of Tomorrow), Davies (Killer Elite) or even Dracula in Blade Trinity. At the end of the day tough guys just love their mum like the rest of us.

He finished with "Everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way. With $100 from each watch going to help provide more nurses, I am stoked to be supporting and asking people to join and  “Buy a ‘Pink’ watch!” he proclaims!

Dominic Purcell has posted a beautiful photo with his mother and the watch on his instagram @dominicpurcell with the words "for my mum". Others following Dominic's lead and supporting the cause with their own "for my ... " sentiments are AFL Hall of Famer and former Sydney Swans captain Michael O'Loughlin, Archibald Prize artist Dee Smart, Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck, actor Luke Carroll from Play School and Sydney Weekender, Sydney businessman Jack Singleton and John Gannon personal trainer to professional surfers like Taj Burrows. This disease touches all of us and the people joining Dominic come from all walks of life and are happy to support an organisation that supports people who really need it.
